[ sitting in his room in marco's mansion with a record player belting out blitzkrieg bop. not so loud that he can't be heard, but it's clearly cranked up a little. nico, meanwhile, is sharpening his sword and looking a little put out. after having his memories shared with multiple people, he's not feeling too sociable. but he can hear jason grace in his head telling him he needs to get out of the house and talk to people. ]

Eight months. I've been here eight months and there's still no way to get back to camp. Back... home.

[ the fact he calls camp home now truly reveals just how much he misses his friends and family. ]

This place isn't too bad, but being the only demigod around here kind of sucks. I don't know how many people around here get homesick, but I would certainly accept even some of the gods, Greek gods showing up. No offense to you Norse types.

[ he picks up his sword and sets his thumb against the edge, cheering up a little as it nicks the skin, causing blood to well to the surface. sucking on his thumb, he sets the sword aside. ]

Whatever. Anyone want to go outside quarantine and kill some stuff?

I see my dad more often than most kids see their godly parents, but still. The gods aren't supposed to meddle in the lives of their demigod kids. Messes with the Fates, law of causality kinda thing.

Right. ( billy may be a lot more of norse nerd than anything else but look: he can totally, 100% get on board with green mythology too. er. not myth. but that. )

What's outside quarantine?

[ at that question, a smirk forms on nico's lips. dark and dangerous as his eyes glint with a slight manic fire. ]

Things that want to kill us all.

So you just. go out there and kill them first.

[ a shrug. ]

It's something to do when I get bored. That, or I raise spirits to talk to them.

Any interesting ones up here?

( he disproves of these methods, nico. but he's not getting into it right now. )

[ necromancers gonna necromance? ]

A few. There was even a god, a while back, that started waking. I had to put it to sleep because it was causing problems. Otherwise, the spirits mostly talk about what happened to them and what life was like. Sometimes they give important information, though.

[ like the time he rose a spirit that told him and loki about a rich vein of ore on the other side of the moon. but that's to be kept on the DL ]

( it's not the necromancing that bothers him. it's the needless killing of things that can't even reach them. )

What life was like on this moon, or? ( how long has this quarantine existed. )

[ well, nico's not exactly hero material. his hands have been stained before and he's not afraid to kill if he has to. ]

Pretty much. Outside quarantine, there's a lot of restless spirits from whatever hit them here and caused them to raise the fences, but inside, most of the spirits are regular people.

Natives, and such. Not all of them are very talkative, but some are pretty friendly.

Does anyone have any idea what did hit them?

( seems like a good place to start at least, right? )

A plague of some sort. It apparently happened fast. Most of the spirits I've spoken with have been murky on the details. And it's not for lack of trying either.

Ah, I see. That's unfortunate.

( the deaths, the lack of information. )

Makes you wonder what's really out there on this moon.

A lot of mysteries, that's for sure. And not many people willing to find answers. Most seem content to just stay put. Build nightclubs or whatever.

[ calling loki out, even if he works for the godling. ]

Basically, people seem willing to just remain here and not ask questions.

( damn those lokis, building nightclubs and sitting around eating breakfast meats. )

Seems a little fishy, if you ask me. This whole thing. . the moon, five years in Quarantine. Has anyone personally met anyone who has left?

[ he may call loki out, but he's actually rather fond of him. okay, maybe a little more than fond, but anyway...

How do you mean? Like... left the moon? There are people trying to get a space ship working to hopefully reach the planet, but I'm skeptical of it working.

I've considered trying to shadowtravel there, but doing that would be pretty risky.

Like left the moon and gotten out of Quarantine.

( billy gets complicated loki feelings. he'd even sympathize with nico, a little--if he knew. lokis are complicated. )

I've tried teleporting. I don't usually--have a set range, but I seem to here.

You can teleport? Like... magic? That must mean you're not a normal mortal.

[ gives his head a little shake. ]

Nobody has, as far as I know. At least no one who's ever come back.

Yeah, I'm a witch.

( that just makes this place even more shady, thanks. if they're supposed to be able to leave, someone should know of someone who has left. )

Strange. You'd think someone'd have records of that.

A witch? Follower of Hecate?

[ reminds him of his half-sister, which only intensifies the homesickness he's been feeling. ]

People that leave and come back, if they do, don't tend to have memories of being here. Apparently there's some issue with the portal.

No--uh. I'm a mutant? It's hereditary power, I don't follow any gods to get it.

( kind of. it's a little hard to explain the whole, technically soul child of someone despite being born to a jewish family of no relation to said witch he's technically the soul child of in upstate new york thing. )

I was here before, too, but I don't remember it.

A mutant?

[ that conjures up ideas of people with three eyes and such. this is the first time nico's heard of mutants. ]

I wonder what causes the memory wipe. It's so weird.

People born a little different? I'm not quite sure how to explain mutants.

( the memory thing though. it'd be nice if there was an easy explanation for it. )

Portal error?

Right. Okay. I'll take your word for it. I should mention the idea of mutants in my world generally means someone with three eyes or something. Which... I guess isn't too far from demigods, but... [ shrug. ]

The portal seems to make a lot of errors. Including bringing multiples of people.
