If anyone has been contacted by Poe Dameron about being turned into a bird...

He is fine. He is well. For the time being. [deleted]

I'm taking care of it...

And I truly do apologize for his...excitement, for lack of a better term.

If anyone is upset, just contact me directly.

Thank you.

[Sam considers this possibility for about thirty seconds - it's not unappealing, and it's not like he doesn't know someone who could do it - then realizes that, wait, he can already fly. A+, Sam.]

If it happens again and you need someone to chase down a bird, just yell.

[oh, right, Earth figures of speech]

I mean let me know. I'm Sam, by the way. I'm...good at tracking down birds.

[Don't ask how. Sometimes it's better not to ask. At least his username should indicate some sort of fondness for avians.]

Yeah, well, there's always weird magic guys willing to turn people into animals when they ask. One of my friends turned me into a dog once - to be fair, he kinda started it by showing up as a beagle.

No, but I've picked up some new skills since I got here.

...yeah, I don't blame you. Honestly, I thought it was weird at first, but when you start hanging out with a sorcerer who eats demon squid, you sort of learn to readjust your idea of normal. Being here is one hell of an education, that's for sure.

...the kind where you wake up one morning and can telepathically communicate with birds.

I don't ask him where he gets them from. For all I know, he's got a portal to demon-squid land in the fridge where they stay. Which has to be chained up so the demon squid don't escape. And they smell awful when you cook them, and I'm assured they taste even worse. It's some weird kind of magic thing.

Not yet.

[Sorry, Rey, Sam's just as crazy as the rest of them.]

Just birds. Actually, not all birds, but I'm getting better at it over time. First it was just the biggest ones, and now I'm sort of working my way down to the smaller ones. Still can't manage anything smaller than a crow.

No, but there's a flamethrower in the kitchen in case they do.

[Is he serious? Sadly, yes.]

It's not the magic as much as it is the experience of being something else. Like being able to fly unaided, or having a dog's sense of smell. It's not something I'd do all the time, but just once or twice is pretty interesting.

A larger bird. I'm still kind of working on smaller birds, they aren't as intelligent.

Well, I figure there are enough magic-users here that someone's got to be able to reverse it if something happens. I trust them enough to believe that they wouldn't use a spell that could go completely haywire - I'm not saying that mistakes don't happen, but I'm not going to let just anyone on the street turn me into something, either. Just the people who I know can pull that kind of thing off.

Which sounds so weird, because there isn't magic where I'm from, either, and now I'm just...hanging out with sorcerers all the time.

Hey, man, I'm not judging, just offering. Like I said, I was a dog - although now I'm wishing I would've asked to be a bird instead.

Bird's way better.

[ At least this guy isn't acting like Poe is crazy or an idiot. FALCON-PERSON AND BILL. HIS SAVIORS. ...Also Chase but that kid clearly has his own issues. ]

And I was an eagle. I'd never even seen one of those things before.

[ His enthusiasm is returning. ]

[Look, magic is cool, and turning into things is even cooler.]

Eagle's a good choice. Their style of flying is a lot better than a little bird. Plus they're just cooler than turning into something like a pigeon. I mean, come on, if you're gonna be a bird, you might as well be something awesome.

[Like a falcon. :D]

Eagle was great, amazing lift, I could glide forever, but the turning radius was pretty wide. I'd love to try something smaller, better angle on the wings for quick maneuvers.

[ Nerd nerd nerd. ]

Try a falcon. Smaller bird of prey, fastest speed on Earth when they're diving. They're built for agility.

[ Okay HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE are from the planet Dirt anyway??? ]

Now that sounds like my kind of bird.

You're not biased though, huh?

[ Dat username bro. ]

I mean, I might be. Although I didn't pick the name originally, it was the codename for a government project I was part of.

Doesn't mean I'm wrong, though.
volitaunt: (262)

[personal profile] volitaunt 2017-12-12 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Codename. Going to take a wild guess and say you can't talk about it?

Oh, I believe you. Never seen a falcon bird, but I've seen the Millennium Falcon. Fastest ship in the galaxy, even if she doesn't look like much.

[personal profile] wingedman 2017-12-13 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, we're on a moon in a different universe, it's totally top secret here. It's a jetpack designed for personal flight, but the military decided it was too expensive in terms of both cash and the amount of time needed to train people to use it. Which is a goddamn shame, if you ask me, but the Air Force never actually asked my opinion once in seven years.

[oh my god he mentioned the millennium falcon brb screaming internally]

[personal profile] volitaunt 2017-12-13 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Never know. There's plenty I've seen that has to stay classified, at least unless the General shows up.

[ Go ahead and ask him who the General is, Sam. You know you want to. ]

PERSONAL flight? So you do the whole bird thing without the magic?
wingedman: (17)

[personal profile] wingedman 2017-12-13 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[oh god oh god PLAY IT COOL SAM don't tell him he's from a fictional universe]

The General?

[Is it Luke? Is it? No because the real answer is way cooler]

Basically, yeah. Except the magic way is probably easier, 'cause let me tell you, I had to have years of training to learn what birds know from instinct. Aerodynamics classes, gymnastics, weight training, anything else they could come up with.
volitaunt: (116)

[personal profile] volitaunt 2017-12-13 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ Seriously Sam don't tell him, he's been having a nice day. Mostly. ]

General Leia Organa. You'd know her if you met her, trust me.

[ Damnit Poe wanted to try the thing. Still: ]

You have to let me see it in action.
