At home, sometimes I thought that I'd really like to get a break from my family. The town I'm from isn't so great and well a lot of bad things were happening. I got mad at my dad a lot because it felt like I couldn't depend on him or any adult to care or help with the things that were happening. We ended up not needing the adults but it sucked.
I guess, it wasn't perfect at home but now that I'm here and my family isn't I really miss them. I wouldn't think I could miss them this bad. I miss going to the Synagogue and my dad making me study Hebrew. I always thought it was really annoying and boring.
Do you miss anything that you don't have here that you didn't think you could ever miss?
Is there anything that helps?

[ "I miss a world that makes sense" isn't really helpful, or an answer thorough enough to satisfy either her or her instructors. ]
Before this, I was at Cobulo Academy of Military Science. We had schedules, regulations, drills. I knew what I was supposed to do and how.
I haven't found anything here that feels the same.

I don't imagine there is anything very much like that...
It sounds like it would be nice, though. I can see why you would miss it.

It was home.
[ There, a compromise between sentimentality and facts. ]
My name is Chyler. What's yours?

How do you keep busy?

I work a lot. Or spend time with people I've befriended here.
If you have something you've always wanted to do - now is the time to try.

it wasn't "family" but they were my family.
[ She's trying to relate, albeit not doing a great job. ]
you could try doing that stuff here
studying hebrew or whatever
maybe it would make you feel closer to your family.

[ Stan usually asks the important questions but sometimes... ]
I guess so. I have some of my books from home.
I think you can find family here too. It seems like a lot of people have...

freeze dried. and you just add water.
not great.
[ Coming from experience, here. ]
i guess that stands to reason, giving how at home they want you to feel here
did you come by accident?

Actually...yes. I have few friends. That's difficult to believe, I know.
I miss all of them. Even the hairy one. Knowing I may return one day helps, but otherwise...I try to look forward, rather than behind.

[ At least in Stan's experience. ]
I guess that is a good way to look at it. Sometimes it's hard to remember...

But that's what friends are for, isn't it? Have you made friends here? There's a school, I believe.

[So he gets it, hence why Ivar sounds a lot more subdued than he usually does.]
As far as helping, I just got someone to help invent a computer program that looks exactly like the city. It's nice to be reminded of what it all looks like.

[ His voice trails off because he'd been about to mention It but he doesn't think he really wants to talk about It -- how would he explain It to Ivar? If he knew more about Vikings, it'd be fair to say that Ivar might know of something that he can relate it to more than people from Stan's own time. ]
Can I see yours?
[ He wonders if you can create a computer program of your friends. Then again does he want a digital Richie making dick jokes all the time and Eddie worrying about his health and so on? (Okay, yes, but he won't likely admit that out loud). ]
no subject
Sure. [When Ivar is proud of something, he tends to want to show off to people. Besides, what good is having Kattegat there for people to see if no one uses it?] Do you know where the entrance to the thing called the holodeck is in the city?

My dad didn't really do those kinds of things.
And when my friends and I went to the lake it was always just to play in the water.

[He's obviously speaking to a child: he doesn't say that he never did see his father or brother again, and that the only time he saw his other brother was when the boy was dying at his feet.]
I have a sister I miss now. We didn't get on when we were children, but things are better now.
What sort of bad things were happening in your town?
[OOC: SUCH A SUPER LATE TAG-IN, I'M SORRY.]
you're fine!
I don't have any siblings but my friends back home were kind of like brothers...and a sister.
There was a evil thing...it was taking kids. But we defeated it.
[ He should have expected these sorts of questions but talking about It is rather difficult, especially in any real way. It means admitting that everything was real and that meant admitting that It might come back and he'd have to fight again. ]
