[Letha's confusion over this new technology is clear from the first moment of the video. She's turned on the camera facing away from her, showing her desk full of neatly organized piles of paper, all forms with neat cursive scrawled across them. The angle is skewed, camera shaky, and she keeps moving it as she tries to figure out the device.]

There's absolutely nothing like this in my world...

[Sure, she'd tried very hard to follow the orientation instructions, but she's handling it much like a grandmother with her first smartphone. She finally gets it turned around, but that just gives viewers a worm's eye view of her shocked face as she sees the unflattering angle and turns it back around to her desk.]

If only I could write on these, it would be so much simpler. Well, anyway. Can anyone hear me? I thought it might be prudent to contact this 'network'... and see if anyone who understands these... inventions better than me could lend me a hand.

[Go easy on her, she's never even seen a telephone or typewriter before.]

*Lola starts the video off by... adjusting her hair and checking her make-up. Not that she needs to do much but brush a few strands of her bangs back into place. She leans back, clearly at the Sunset Diner in one of the booths. Must be slow, doesn't sound like many people are there.*

I just had a great idea! I mean, not 'get us home great,' I really don't know how I got here, so I am totally the wrong person for getting us home. But it's still a great idea.

*Lola's at least projecting a lot of energy and excitement, that's for sure.*

I was thinking since we're all from different worlds, maybe we should all share something nice we miss from home. Not a personal thing, I mean, you can if you want. Just... a part of your world you feel is very unique to it. Or unique to your life at home.

Sort of a get to know each other game. If you're not comfortable doing your own video I can totally help film and edit it after so you don't have to be nervous over flubbing lines or knocking over salt shakers to the floor or anything.

*How oddly specific of you Lola.*

At least, I can help after my shift. But this place is super dead right now. So I don't think my boss would mind. Especially if you order something!

*Lola blows a kiss to her camera before reaching over and shutting it off.*

Good afternoon. My name is Roy Greenhilt.

[Seven words -- no, no, he doesn't have to keep himself to the word limit of a Sending spell with this strange device, even though he's given to understand its transmission functions are most analogous to that spell.]

[Don't mind that brief pause. He's just going to be here acting like he knows what he's doing.]

As many of you are no doubt aware, there are numerous exploratory missions set out to benefit the quarantine and ensure the survival of its people. I am seeking others who would be willing to join a party dedicated to routinely undertaking these missions, as well as various other freelance opportunities that may present themselves. I'm an experienced adventurer and party leader, so I'd like to put those skills to use here for the betterment of the quarantine.

I generally prefer in-person interviews but I recognize we're all a bit busy adjusting to our new circumstances, particularly after the storms that just rolled through and a recent concern about attacks on the quarantine, so I'm willing to be flexible. My own duties aren't to be put aside on a whim either! [Roy offers a grin to the camera which is a little stale, the joke lame enough that it proves he's not quite comfortable with this whole thing.]

Please get in touch with me at your earliest convenience if you're interested in joining.

riverview quarantine: network
how to use the network

Characters are not required to use one particular type of device to access the network, but upon arrival are guided through setting up an account to access the network. They can choose whatever username they would like, or go with the default of first initial and last name. They are given a choice of several smartphones upon arrival for daily use, and after orientation, they can upgrade this phone on their own dime or access the network by tablet, laptop, desktop, network-on-TV, game console, or any other method you can think of. If characters arrived with a device on their person, they can also choose to use that device, with a slight alteration for compatibility. The only way to access the network on any device is with the username they set up when they arrive.

Characters have access to the Quarantine equivalents of any (legal) websites that are available on the usual internet. More information on how the internet and network in Riverview functions can be found at the following links: 1. 2. 3. 4.
