[ The camera catches a glimpse of Jim's face in his Perimeter Guard uniform, but only for the flicker of a second before there's a bump of some sort and the device is knocked down. Jim's surprised expression is the last thing to show before the only view for a few seconds is the ceiling. His voice can be heard from off camera. ]
John! Bad boy, bad.
[ There's a snout next, sniffing at the screen, then a tongue... then finally Jim reaches his phone and picks it up from the ground. He's grinning a little and shaking his head as he props it up on the table again and pulls away, dragging his new friend along with him so he's kept away from his device. ]
Sorry. That was... anyway. Captain James Kirk here, and this is John, the latest member of the aerial unit. [ He just wandered in one day and now Jim's keeping him, shut up. ] So— due to the latest rains and the most recent flooding near the river, a lot of people have found themselves temporarily displaced. I'm one of those people, but luckily me and my buddy here have a place to crash at the Perimeter Guard. We have plenty of beds and mattresses available here, for what it's worth, so anyone who finds themselves momentarily homeless, you'll be more than welcome here.
There should be other places we could use to offer people some shelter. The community centers come to mind, for instance. Gathering a few supplies would help though, so anyone willing to help and donate a few things, that would be great.
Additionally, I'll be making rounds on the shuttle, so anyone who needs a hand or absolutely must get somewhere out of bounds due to the flood, let me know.
And that's it! [ He smiles a little, nodding. ] Remember to keep safe. And if you don't need to be anywhere near it, stay away from the river. At least until the rain lets up and we manage to figure out where all this water's coming from.
(( ooc: this post is open to action for the following options: around the perimeter guard barracks, getting some rest, working, or helping other misplaced people out; near the river, aiding anyone in trouble and/or possibly fighting any of the monsters; a little all over the place on his shuttle, ready to jump in and get anyone out of a tough spot. ))

[ He's at the ready while Tony takes care of the beam, admittedly curious and impressed when he manages to lift it more or less easily. Jim's even more curious about the suit now, and the enhancing abilities it has, but this is obviously not the time to be asking Tony about it. ]
Alright, I'm on it.
[ In a couple of seconds there's a grappling arm extending from the side of the shuttle, near the front, and Jim flies closer to the pile. It takes some care and attention as to not pick the wrong pieces, but slowly he starts lifting them off one by one and moving them to a dry patch of land nearby, hoping not to disturb the precarious balance of the rest of the debris. ]

Once he's got a decent sense of how the shuttle moves, Tony drifts back in to help sort through everything, occasionally lifting stuff to give Jim a better grip on it. They work around each other as they dismantle the pile, until Tony finally puts up a hand.]
Hold up. It's gonna get messier from here.
no subject
Once they get to the last bits of the debris, Jim pulls back when Tony holds his hand up, retracting the arm just so and getting it out of Tony's way. ]
Alright, so— how do you wanna do this?
no subject
Probably best if we can get it all at once. How much reach you got?
no subject
[ But that's still better than nothing, he thinks. At least they'll get the larger pieces, which are the ones likelier to cause any actual damage. ]
no subject
[He kind of doubts it, but it never hurts to check.]
So bring out the net, we secure as much as possible, then haul the entire thing into a safer place?
no subject
[ Although he seriously hopes there won't be a next time in the form of another flood. This one's causing more than enough damage as it is. ]
Sounds like our best shot. [ There's a pause as he gets the mechanism ready, making sure the shuttle's hovering steadily above the river. ]
I might need a hand placing the net, but I'm ready when you are.
no subject
[Tony flexes his hands with a slight creak of metal and begins to drop down towards the river again, though he doesn't land just yet. Staying in the air will make it easier to maneuver when the net comes down, if they want to do this quickly.]
Fire when ready.
no subject
Alright— releasing in two, one...
[ He activates the mechanism and the net drops, four mechanical arms extending and holding onto the edges of the net, two of them stretching a little lower so the net is standing more vertical than horizontal, and it can be placed downstream. He lowers the shuttle, the edge of the net touching the surface of the rushing waters. ]
Show's yours, Stark.
no subject
[It's an absent mutter as he swoops in to get to work, fixing the net in place along the bottom most parts of the pile before darting over to pull it taught over the main mass. What doesn't fit inside he tries to shove in place, at least as much as it can move without dislodging everything.
Once it's at least as good as it seems like he's going to get, Tony backs off to land gently on the riverband, even if his boots do sink into the mud a worrying amount.]
How's your grip?
no subject
Should be alright. [ Keyword 'should', because Tony's the one with a better view and perspective of the debris, and whether or not it's covered completely by the net. ] The weight I can handle. Want me to try and lift it up a little?
no subject
Just a couple of inches. Let's make sure nothing's getting left behind.
no subject
Copy that. Moving in three, two...
[ Slowly the arms holding the net fold, lifting it up a few inches, bringing the pile of debris along. It's up to Tony now to see whether or not there's anything coming loose. Until he gets the green light, though, he's not moving any more than this. ]
no subject
Looks good. But go slow, I think the net could break if some of that jostles too much.
no subject
Got it. [ He's working a little blind here, but he'll do his best. The shuttle is steady, and so is his hand at the helm, but the biggest risk here is what he can't control: the river itself, the unpredictable current that could change from one moment to the next, especially during a flood.
He lifts the pile a couple of feet next, keeping the same pace, and not pausing until Tony tells him to. ]
no subject
Once the bottom of the net clears the river, he nods and moves in a bit closer. This is where things are going to get tricky.]
Okay. We dressing left or right?
no subject
Jim scans the area briefly. ]
Left. Closer and there's more room there. [ He makes note of Tony's position. ] Ready to go?
no subject
[He hovers close by the net, hands up just in case it tries to start moving in unexpected ways. Hard to judge how the weight will shift once they get everything in motion.]
Keep it slow.
no subject
[ Just like before, he starts moving after the countdown. This time he moves to the side instead, the shuttle steady though the pile of debris sways just so. Even minor movements make some smaller parts shift, but at least the net doesn't break or lose strength despite the tension.
Jim will have to put some trust on Tony for this. He's the one with a better perspective, after all, and if anything does go wrong, he has a much better chance to do some damage control than Jim does right now. ]
no subject
It does mean that he catches a small piece of driftwood sliding out the bottom of the net, right before it tries to catch on a rock and upend the delicate balance they've got going.]
Hold on.
[It's a little sharp, but Tony doesn't want to move to try to fix it until the net is stopped.]
no subject
Everything alright down there? Should I pull back again?
no subject
[He gives it another moment, then reaches down to try to resettle everything. It nearly makes another piece fall out as well, but Tony just barely manages to catch it in time.
Tony sighs as he climbs to his feet, then taps the net to make sure nothing is going to move.]
Right, okay.
no subject
Alright then, slowly... [ And he resumes the same course as before, gently bringing the shuttle and the debris closer to the shore. ]
no subject
You've got a better view than me, does this look far enough?
no subject
Looks fine to me. If the ground is steady, we can bring it down here.
