If you could have one wish, what would you wish for? Not like...money or anything. Not for powers, but what would you really wish for?

[Because it's her birthday, and she wasn't really in the mood to celebrate. Of course, she'll wish for her family to be okay, for them to remember and come here so they could meet Victor. But...would that be a waste of a wish? Sure, wishes were powerful, but she was in another world, and she didn't think they would be strong enough to pull her family from one realm to the next...

Or, maybe she's just over thinking things. Maybe she just wants to talk and not think about her birthday.]

This is true...I should've known better, but..my grandma made a wish and it came true.

[ Loki grimaces. He believes otherwise but he's not keen to lecture Lucy on it. ]

No doubt. But I find it is better to do than to wish for it.

There's nothing I can really do to make anything I can come true--well, the more important stuff.

But...I have more than what kids have, so I shouldn't be selfish in wishing for other things.

I don't think wishes have anything to do with selfishness.

[ It is an inherent desire. Hardly terrible. ]

Then perhaps start small.

My wish...it's for the curse to be broken..and for my family to come here, because I have family here too.

It's a lot to wish for, hence..asking for other ideas.

Because...I've made a family here too, with Papa--Victor I mean.

And I don't want to leave my new friends behind.

I thought he was from your reality, so to speak. Why would he be left behind?

He is...part of my world, but not really.

So, there's Hyperion Heights which is part of the world without magic, but there's the realm I'm from....and the world Victor's from. So we're from the same place that has different realms, but not the same realm...

Does that make sense?

And he has someone he likes here...I don't want to take him away from that.

I will give your reality this. It is far more complex than any other I've heard of.

[ Loki parses that quietly. ]

Taken or not, sometimes people must part. They change and grow or have callings elsewhere.

Complex...complicated, the beginnings of a book. [Sorry, she couldn't help it. It's a bit dorky, but it's part of her family's make up.

There's a slow nod followed by a quiet hum of acknowledgment.]

..But I don't want them to part because of me, or anything. I...I want Papa to be happy, that's all.

[ There's a pause as Loki speaks. ]

What makes you think it will be because of you? Happiness comes from all sources. Absence does not rob it. Change does not dilute it.

If we're sent back to our worlds, Victor could go with me to mine, but I want him to have a choice. I want him to be with someone who makes him happy...even though I'd miss him a lot.

[dothelokimotion]

As far as I know, the portal generally offers one. People are not forced to go.

Have you spoken to them about this?

No...I haven't. I don't want to bring it up and I don't like to think about it, but...I've already lost two people.

[dothelokimotion]

It might be worthwhile at least to discuss it. And know what the plans are.

That's not something you'd want to bring up during dinner.

I don't want to think about it at all...but I know it's a possibility. It just..hurts to think about.

No, but the longer it lingers, the worse it'll feel.

[ And Loki would know. He's constantly plagued with doubts and not the best at communication. ]

It feels worse knowing I could lose everyone I care about...again.

[And then to think about who will take care of her, and then worry if that person goes away too..it's a lot to think about for a nine year old.]

All the more reason to discuss it. So that certain contingencies can be put in place.

And if the contingencies all fail?

Then they're not very well planned. But all the more reason to do it soon and set your mind at ease.

[She doesn't look very convinced of it. Henry and her had a plan to go to the land without magic with all their memories in tact, that way they could help break the curse, but the plan didn't go well.

And her plan to help break the curse didn't go well either.]

[ Look, curse-breaking plans aside, dealing with normal plans like "who will take care of me in case of X" shouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility. ]

At the very least, is it not worth trying?

It's...worth trying.

[It's a normal plan, how hard could those be? Better than having to come home and figure out what to do...]

And it gives us the chance to talk in case...I go away, or anything else.
