So, after some rocky couple of months, it looks like we're settling in for a quieter month. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not complaining. Everyone should take the opportunity to relax a little and have some fun, but please be careful. Keep in mind that things can stop being peaceful and safe pretty fast.

Building on that thought, I'd like to reinforce we are always accepting new members at the Perimeter Guard. Can't have too many of us. Also, if you can pilot ships, shuttles or airplanes, I'm always looking for more members for the aerial unit, more specifically.

If anyone's curiosity is piqued, feel free to drop by and ask for Captain James T. Kirk. I'll be happy to show you around.

[ And he leans in as though he's turning off the camera...

That's very helpful, actually. The only problem would be me having to choose.

Are you a good teacher?

[sentiences]

I should think so. At the very least, I would be meticulous and patient.

And doubtlessly tease me if I make myself look like an idiot. You're just lucky you're cute.

Okay. That sounds like fun. I should pay you for the lessons, though. Seems fair.

But I would be confidential in my teasing.

I don't really need that much money.

I'll have to live with that.

You could use it to get stuff you want. But if not, then there has to be something else I can do for you. Like teach you something in return. Is there anything you can't do?

[sentiences]

I'm sure you're used to it.

Nothing that I can't download and process myself. I'm sorry.

I don't mean learn that way. What about learning from experience? Through trial and error? You know, like humans do. Have you ever tried that?

[sentiences]

[ A beat. ]

No. Never.

Aren't you curious about it?

[sentiences]

I guess I've never thought about it.

[ Deep down . . . Dorian believes he can and that belief is enough. ]

Well, think about it. Maybe there's something I know how to do and you don't, and I could teach you. Quid pro quo.

[sentiences]

All right. I'll give it some thought.

How've you been doing, by the way? It's been a while.

[sentiences]

I've been acclimatizing myself. I went out for karaoke and did some work with the Perimeter Guard during the monster attacks.

I'm hoping they'll let me have my promotion. What about yourself? I take it the dance lessons are for a special occasion.

[winscenario]

That sounds great. So new experiences, huh? How did you like karaoke?

Yes and no. It's not for a specific celebration or event, but I want to prepare a surprise for someone special. It'll still be a special occasion, I guess, but apropos of nothing.

[sentiences]

I enjoyed it. I've always liked singing.

[ It lacks the additional bonus of annoying Kennex, but Dorian will take it. ]

I'm sure they would appreciate that. Especially since you're learning a dance from scratch.

[winscenario]

Me too. I can play the guitar too. Sort of. What kind of music do you like?

Well, not entirely from scratch. I know some basics.The waltz is a little out of my depth, admittedly, but he likes it, so I thought it could be a nice theme for a special date.

[sentiences]

Jazz. Soul. I'm fond of Prince and Lionel Richie.

So how many times have you done the waltz? Be honest.

[winscenario]

Oh, good choices. I really like those two. I love music from that era.

Once. It was on a different planet though, so it was slightly different from the waltz most people would know. It was fun, but I messed up a little bit. Never bothered learning about ballroom dances in great detail.

[sentiences]

I find they match my vocals well.

And I suppose ballroom dancing isn't much of a norm.

[winscenario]

Is that so? I've got to admit now I'm curious to hear you sing.

It's not, but it would've come in handy in my line of work. Sometimes diplomacy and interspecies relations can involve some social activities, such as dancing.

[sentiences]

I'm sure we can arrange that.

Dancing? For diplomacy?

Not . . . actual discussions?

[winscenario]

Sure! Imagine this: you visit a new planet, meet a new race of people. They welcome you, show you their world, throw a banquet or some other kind of party to celebrate the new friendship between your two people. You're the captain of your ship, so for all effects and purposes, you are the representative of your whole species.

There's dancing happening at that party. Wouldn't you say it's important that you know how to dance?

[sentiences]

I guess it never occured to me.

We don't usually recommend dancing during hostage situations and policeman balls. Plus I'm not particularly representative.
