[There's a variety of reasons Jintetsu's waited so long to do this, but... he can't really work with a bad arm, and money's fast becoming an issue, so it's time to bite the bullet.]

i need an engineer or someone good with machines . will pay but probably not all of it up front . just so you know ,

[ Maia is unfamiliar with advanced technology, so he checks and double-checks and triple-checks to make sure the message he is posting will not bear his name, before he asks: ]

What would you do with your freedom, if you had it for the first time in your life and never learned how to use it?

[ The question is awkwardly phrased, true, but he really is pretty desperate for advice. One way and another, he's been pent up and under supervision since he was born, and now he doesn't really know how else to be. ]

[ The video starts with one of Jim's usual smiles. For those who recognize the location, he's sitting at his desk at the Perimeter Guard. ]

So, after some rocky couple of months, it looks like we're settling in for a quieter month. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not complaining. Everyone should take the opportunity to relax a little and have some fun, but please be careful. Keep in mind that things can stop being peaceful and safe pretty fast.

Building on that thought, I'd like to reinforce we are always accepting new members at the Perimeter Guard. Can't have too many of us. Also, if you can pilot ships, shuttles or airplanes, I'm always looking for more members for the aerial unit, more specifically.

If anyone's curiosity is piqued, feel free to drop by and ask for Captain James T. Kirk. I'll be happy to show you around.

[ And he leans in as though he's turning off the camera...

(( BLOCKED FROM @FRANKENSTEIN ))

... but instead he just fiddles with a couple of settings before going on to add. ]

I was also wondering if anyone here could teach me how to waltz? Or any other similar dance, really. Something nice and romantic. [ A nod. ] Thanks.

[ And now he's done. ]

((ooc: WHOOPS FORGOT TO ADD. If you want your character to join the aerial unit (they can still keep other jobs or remain in other branches of the perimeter guard in case you're wondering) please JOIN HERE! Thank you! ♥))

I've never seen so many animals in all my life. Where I'm from, there's no wildlife. None. This place is amazing. [ playing the part. be calm, paige. you'll find your way.]  Although, I'm feeling wobbly as a mother Gorgybird.

[ it's the best thing she can think to say, that might attract the attention of anyone in the Resistance. it's not quite the most accurate signal but it's good enough for this situation.]

Does anyone know where I can see or find more?

[ It's taken him some time to finally make up his mind and make this post. In fact, he lets it sit, all written up and ready to go, for a good while before deciding to go ahead with it. It's a silly thing, really; after Loki's taught him how to make an anonymous post, he knows no one will have any way of knowing it's him, so while he's admitting to something to the population of the Quarantine at large, no one will associate it with him, not unless he identifies himself.

He also knows he won't know the identity of anyone replying to the post, which at the moment is sort of the point. Anonymity is pretty useful in this situation. Eventually, depending on the answers he gets, he may just come to find the identity of some of these people, but for now, it offers some detachment, some distance. ]

I've been here for some weeks now, and I've come to realize that a few of us have been brought here because there was nothing else left for us. In other words, we are dead. Or we were, before we were brought back to life here. I know for a fact that I haven't been the only one to wake up at the hospital, surrounded by doctors and machinery, and it's admittedly something I'm still struggling with.

I'm not sure what to make of it. It fits what I've been told about how the portal is supposed to work. I felt out of place in the sense that I felt as if I'd reached the end of the line, that I'd have nothing else ahead of me. I'm yet to decide if this place is a new home for me, or if I'm living on borrowed time, but I won't lie: I'm glad to be alive and breathing.

It's difficult, though, not having someone to talk to about it. Granted, I'm not even sure I'd want to, but I'd like to have that option. Perhaps I'm not the only one who feels that way. Maybe a number of us are struggling in our minds with our situation, and we don't know if we can reach out, or to whom. So I've been wondering if, of those people in a similar situation to my own, anyone would be interested in some kind of get-together. A meeting to talk about our experiences— or even if you don't want to talk and would rather just listen to other people's stories, that's fine too.

I'm reluctant to share a lot about my own, so I admit I'm not all that sure about this. I guess I'm hoping for braver people than I to give me the push I likely need.

[ There, it's out of his system. It may amount to nothing but at least he's put it out there. ]

So tell me something.

If someone wants to go home the people in charge here will do their best to get the portal aligned so they can do just that. At the same time, there's no guarantee they'll ever manage that that someone. Which means that a person waiting for a chance to go home could end up waiting not just for weeks or months but years. Maybe even the rest of their blighted life.

Knowing this, do you think it's better to hold back putting down roots just to make it easier to get up and go if the time comes? Even if it means you may be living your life among the people but distinctly separate from them as they build their lives here?

Or is it stupid to waste time, to waste your life and potential happiness on the off chance that one day you may get to return home one day?

[Is she just being stubborn because she won't be a Council Agent anymore if she doesn't return home, or because it feels like she's selling out for an easier lifestyle and having magic at long last? Her pride and sense of honor stings at the thought. The idea of never seeing her family again, of trading them up these things makes her taste ashes in her mouth. Then again she doesn't really have a choice in the matter right now anyway. She's not actually giving anything up at this point.

Really, the more she thinks about it, the more she's coming to realize that no matter what happens, she's going to have to make sacrifices of one sort or another.]

If any has an opinion or any insight I'd appreciate it.

[There's only so long she can sit on this fence before she drives herself even crazier than she feels now.]

I've talked about this with a few of you, but I wanted to make a public announcement just in case someone I haven't spoken to yet was interested in going.

I'm going to take a team with me out to the abandoned city to scavenge for a spaceship. If I've talked with you about it before, you're still invited. If I haven't talked to you yet, now's your chance. I'll message everyone soon with a date and time.

[Today on your screen is everybody's favorite shitty wizard, who's currently sitting in a park somewhere and using mage hand to make sure the camera is at a good angle.

What's up, my dudes? It's ya boy Taako, here to make a super important announcement to save anyone getting their panties in a twist about this shit.

[He's already nailing this whole polite and informative announcement thing.]

Soooo, the people here aren't evil. [Taako shrugs.] It's a fucking revelation, I know, but listen, they're not lying about the whole portal thing and we're not here to be turned into people soup or whatever the hell folks are worried about. I mean, there's for sure some dicks in the bunch so totally not my fault if you get mugged, but uh, the people overall? Have good intentions.

[There's a shrug there, just to finish off his very well-constructed explanation.

Although he should probably also say how he knows this:]

The spirit of some real old and powerful witch told me this shit, bee-tee-dubs, and yeah, before you ask, I know she was telling the truth. That's how the spell works.

[Just take his word for it, folks!

He looks like he's about to hang up, before pausing.]

Uh, right, there's a whole new load of us idiots, isn't there? Hi, I'm Taako, in case you missed it when I said it thirty seconds ago, and that's T-double-A-K-O, not like the food. Sorry to start you off on such a fucking boring note, but here we are. Welcome to Riverview Quarantine or whatever.

[ok bye]

informal poll for you guys. if you had to choose, is this place more like:

a) fantasia, from the neverending story
b) oz, from the wizard of oz
c) wherever the hell it was with the muppets and stuff, from labyrinth
d) wonderland, from alice in wonderland

[ The question might seem like a frivolous one, but the answers should actually be pretty informative, and it's way more fun than just asking people to describe what this place is really like. ]
