( video; un: kirk )
[ The video starts with one of Jim's usual smiles. For those who recognize the location, he's sitting at his desk at the Perimeter Guard. ]
So, after some rocky couple of months, it looks like we're settling in for a quieter month. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not complaining. Everyone should take the opportunity to relax a little and have some fun, but please be careful. Keep in mind that things can stop being peaceful and safe pretty fast.
Building on that thought, I'd like to reinforce we are always accepting new members at the Perimeter Guard. Can't have too many of us. Also, if you can pilot ships, shuttles or airplanes, I'm always looking for more members for the aerial unit, more specifically.
If anyone's curiosity is piqued, feel free to drop by and ask for Captain James T. Kirk. I'll be happy to show you around.
[ And he leans in as though he's turning off the camera...
(( BLOCKED FROM @FRANKENSTEIN ))
... but instead he just fiddles with a couple of settings before going on to add. ]
I was also wondering if anyone here could teach me how to waltz? Or any other similar dance, really. Something nice and romantic. [ A nod. ] Thanks.
[ And now he's done. ]
((ooc: WHOOPS FORGOT TO ADD. If you want your character to join the aerial unit (they can still keep other jobs or remain in other branches of the perimeter guard in case you're wondering) please JOIN HERE! Thank you! ♥))

Well, the waltz is a good start, you’d could other social dances too.
[ There’s probably a book or two on it. ]
no subject
I'm planning on it. Nothing too difficult, though. I want to have fun and not have to worry about which step I have to take next.
no subject
It's not difficult. You just have to keep to the beat of the music--
[Wait a moment.]
Unless...you don't have rhythm. I mean, everyone does, so..you should be fine...right?
[She is the daughter of royalty-kind of, so she has a basic idea of how dances should be done.]

[ He's always been good at a number of physical activities, and he has good coordination and balance. Despite a lack of experience, he's confident that dancing won't present much of a problem to him. All he has to do is learn the steps, then practice. ]
Do you know how to dance?
no subject
[There's a shake of her head.]
Not really. I only know a little for like...dances at a ball. Like the more basic of basic things. But if you mean like dance in place? Then I can kind of do that.
no subject
[ Humming and nodding a bit, ] Well, once I learn how to dance, I could teach you how to dance too, if you want.

[She looks thoughtful for a moment.] Maybe...if you have free time and...nothing else happens. [Like Victor getting sick, and then her getting sick.]
no subject
[ Seriously Lucy, you can't just tell him that and expect him to simply forget about it! ]
I always have free time for you, Lucy. [ He hesitates a moment, but decides to go on and add anyway. ] I know I'm not your parent or anything, but you're still like family to me.
no subject
You're my family too, but...[Give her a moment, trying to sort through feelings.]
When Papa was sick, you didn't want me to help at all--and it felt like, you didn't want me around because....I'm just a kid. [She looks down.]
...I couldn't break the curse when I was in Hyperion Heights and I couldn't help with Papa.

[ Doesn't matter how bright and charming he might be. His job still entails a lot of physical activity, even when he doesn't join in on as many away missions as his other officers. ]
Lucy... [ He sighs, shoulders lowering. He really doesn't like how that conversation ended up going, but... he was tired and worried at the time, borderline panicking, even, that Victor would go into a coma like everyone else, and never wake up again. ] It wasn't about you being a kid, or about you not being able to help. I know you can help with a lot of things, and I knew you'd have been good, taking care of Victor. But in helping him, you could've gotten sick too. And I was worried. I didn't even know what to do to make Victor get better. I was just thinking that if you got sick too...
[ And then she did get sick, and he was completely lost and a mess. ] I wanted to protect you. Guess that didn't work out in the end, but I'd still have made the same choice, anyway. I'll always choose what I think is the best way to keep you safe.

[Still learning about what he could do, just as he's learning more about her. It's what families do.
She doesn't look into the camera, looking down and taking his words in. It was pointless to argue that she wouldn't have gotten sick--because she did. It came faster than anything she would've felt. The fever and the aching, curling up in her bed and hugging both toys. Then nothingness as she sank into the coma. But, it was also in the past. She barely remembered what happened before going into the coma.]
You protected me as best as anyone could with what was happening--I was...I know I was being stubborn. [She's smart enough to know that, and how she was getting on his nerves.] But I was worried about you too, and I didn't like feeling I couldn't do anything--like before.
no subject
[ She's not wrong, though. He's never played for her. Something that evidently needs to be fixed. ]
Well, clearly you had no reason to be worried about me, because I was fine. [ In a manner of speaking. Physically, he was fine. Mentally and emotionally, he was a mess. ] It's fine, Lucy. When I was your age, I was much more stubborn, much more reckless, and I wasn't well-behaved at all. At least you listened to me. I probably would've made it a point to go against the words of any adult who told me what to do, just for the sake of proving that I could do whatever I wanted.
no subject
[Lies, she knew it was there beyond that, but she didn't know if someone was learning to play or it was bought on a whim. Jim...kind of gives off the 'impulsive buyer' kind of vibe.]
...I almost didn't. I was very tempted to ignore you and do what I thought was best, but...I didn't want to disappoint Papa...or you. [She is a goody-two shoes, her parents, and Victor, raised her well. Hopefully it'll carry through when she's a teen.]
But I had every reason to worry about you--you're family, and I didn't want to lose someone else that I love.
no subject
[ He's done it for Victor a couple times, so why not? He should just make it into a Thing. John likes to hear him play too, and he's not half-bad either. There's no downside. ]
You wouldn't disappoint me, Lucy. But I am glad you did what I asked you to, even though I know you didn't like it. Believe me, doing that... you really did help a lot. [ Because it was one less thing he had to worry about, one less thing he had to fear while he took care of Victor. Didn't mean a thing in the end, because she got sick anyway, but at least by then he knew that people would eventually wake up again. Granted, he only started feeling a shred of relief when Victor himself woke up, but still. ]
You won't lose me, Lucy. I promise, as long as I can control it, I'll be here. And I'm stubborn as hell, so— it's really hard to get me to do anything I don't want to. [ He tries to coax her to smile by offering a small smile of his own. ]
no subject
Lucy listened to Jim, trying to take his words to heart. He wouldn't leave, not if he had anything to say about it. He wouldn't just...disappear without telling her good bye.
She looks up at him, seeing the slight smile and tries to smile a little....and he was very stubborn, like when he wouldn't take no for an answer when they first met.]
...You need to make it a pinky promise, that's the only type of promise I'll accept.
no subject
His smile widens at her answer. Good. She doesn't sound as sad now, or upset with him. It's a relief, honestly. That time when Victor was sick, and then when they both were at the hospital, Jim honestly worried that she might be mad enough at him that it'd take time for her to forgive him for being so... well, strict with her.
(He's kind of new at this parenting thing, okay. But he's trying.) ]
Alright. Then let's make it a pinky promise tonight, when we're home. Sounds good?
