I seemed to have misplaced my slave priest. Since he belongs to me, if anyone could return him, I'd be most grateful. He's a little under six feet tall, black hair, blue eyes, and has a magic sword. Answers to the name Bishop Heahmund.

[Heahmund had stormed off in a huff after Ivar had found him the first time, but if he thinks the teenage Viking warlord who captured him back home is done with tormenting him, the priest is far from mistaken. Ivar's just getting started.]

He'll likely be quoting the Bible and telling you all how you're going to hell because he's extremely pompous and seems to think being a Christian bishop makes him better than everyone else. Be sure to let him know I'm looking for him.

If someone defeated me in battle and spared my life because they considered me useful, then that it what the gods willed. When it came to him, it was either make him a slave or crucify him.

[See, Ivar does have a streak of decency to him...if enslaving someone can be a better alternative that giving them a horribly painful death.]

So you say. Has anyone bothered to look up the city's laws on slavery?

[Not that he has either because he is Ivar and doesn't give a fuck, but at least it's something he can tell people who are complaining about this.]

But that was back home. That wasn't here, Ivar. I get it, I get what he was back home, but slavery can't coexist with everything else here. It just can't. You cannot own a person without their consent.

[Alex just honestly doesn't know what to say to that. What can you say to someone who thinks that owning someone else is a thing? So, she just lets out a soft but huffy breath.]

You know people aren't going to be happy about this, Ivar. You can't think they would be.

If I cared about what people think, I never would have gotten where I have in life.

[He'd also have more friends and a family that didn't hate him, but them's the breaks.]

But there's a huge difference between the small and varied community we are now rather than what you were at home. At home this was normal and acceptable. Here? Something like this could really hurt someone, Ivar. I don't think you want to unintentionally hurt people just by doing something like this.

[The cold look in his eyes says otherwise.]

I don't care about hurting people.

[Well, some people. He cares a bit about what his friends and family think, but none of them have put up strong enough of an objection to make him consider another course of action.]

Fine. I mean it's your own call, but just given the wide variety of people who I've met here? There is every possibility that this is going to be hurtful to someone you care about. And maybe that should be something you think about.

I'll give it some thought.

[He says the words curtly and it sounds like he doesn't mean them at all. But Ivar honestly will turn the idea over in his mind. It likely won't change anything, but it's better than anything else people have tried to get him to do thus far.]
