Consider this a little public service announcement, and my good deed for the day.

[At first it’s just Stephen Strange, looking even more like a magic hobo than he usually does, before he moves the feed to focus on a mini-fridge sitting in the corner of the communal kitchens and wouldn’t be anything to comment on if not for the heavy chains wrapped around it keeping the door shut, or the padlock that really looked like overkill.]

If you see this fridge here, missing its padlock or even worse open and I’m not already there dealing with it? I recommend either finding me, or a flamethrower immediately.

[The mini-fridge, which had been sitting quietly until this point started to shake, the sound of something inside smacking against the door making the chains around it rattle. Stephen came into view just long enough to smack the top of the fridge with the handle of a broom which seemed to startle whatever was inside into silence again.]

It should be in the floor 5 kitchen so if it’s not, even if it’s still locked, you’re going to want to come get me and I’ll deal with it.

And if you value your continued good health don’t eat anything that comes out of this thing.

[What a bashful sweetly modest thing Loki was.

The chef's hat definitely gets a raised brow when Stephen comes back into the kitchen, more amused than upset just then.]

Well, it looks promising at least.

You didn't give me much to work with. Are you truly not going to try the local market? This is a miserable way to live, worse than Asgardian meals.

Oh I'm going to try it. Hope springs eternal and all, that one of the other dimensions I wind up in will have food that I can actually enjoy.

It was good practice. [ Don't thank him!! Time to raid the fridge and eat Stark's ice cream. ] Did the Iron Overcompensation mention my wards around the apartment, by the way?

[Shush, he's gonna thank you if he damn well pleases.]

He didn't have to, I noticed them. Don't worry, I know well enough not to mess around with them.

[ It's such a huge fucking relief to have another magic-user around, and a pro at that. Feels like Grandpa Spells doesn't need a run-down. The fact Stephen doesn't try to bug Loki about the wards makes him contrarily eager to ask for help. ]

Fortifying them would be easier if you added a little pizzazz.

[He learned a long time ago not to fuck with other mystic's wards, it's not unlike walking into someone's living room and rearranging everything. He's an asshole but he's not that kind of asshole. Usually.

At least when someone's being generally decent themselves that is.]

I'll take a look and see what I can come up with.

[It'd be a good exercise in working with the magic in this place too, seeing what he could make work.]

[ Fidgeting as he spoons ice cream into his mouth, he glances away from Stephen in order to hold his silence. The wards are designed to keep out dickheads like Doom and Malekith, sure, and they'd at least alert everyone within the apartment to an attack, but the majority of Loki's sorcery is woven against himself, a contingency plan in case King Loki somehow finds his way here.

Truth is, if Strange's power is imbued into the wards too, that might do more than give the psychopath a moment's pause.

Loki doesn't voice his concerns, instead focusing intently on his snack. ]

Mm, cool.

[Stephen notices the shift in the god, weighing his options. He could press, but at the same time he knew how much he hated when other people did that to him. And he was going to have to live with Loki for the foreseeable future, so perhaps he should work on actually exercising some people skills.

Just a couple though don't want people to get the wrong idea about him being personable or anything. So he let the moment pass in favor of eating, because no amount of culinary savvy could save any of this if it was eaten cold.]

So, what job did they try to drop in your lap here?

[He doubts it'd stick, Loki strikes him as a bit too mercurial for a general nine-to-five thing.]

[ The conversation isn't unwelcome, even if the topic isn't the cheeriest. He shrugs, hitching up a smile. ]

The clever folk picked up on that.

Saves you the time spent blatantly ignoring assignments too, how considerate of them.

Not exactly. I'm avoiding my assignments for an entirely different reason.

[He's Seen Some Shit before showing up here, the fact that he's not blackout drunk says something to his self-control.]

Not that it'll last long though, I've never been able to really stop for long.

Long month before showing up here, and it seemed to only be getting worse. Still dealing with the hangover.

[Understatement of the year award goes to...]

Not the state I want to be in when it comes time to play the 'my ego is better than yours so fucking listen to me' game with the hospital staff.

Stephen, people argue with me on principle, but they argue with you because you're a dick.

True, but consider that I'm basically walking into a hospital to 'start telling people why something they're doing is wrong and how to fix it'.

Of course that's not the actual job but that's what it'll feel like to them and then it becomes one big dick-measuring contest.

I've been on the other side of that plenty of times, and I'm not the only horrible bastard in medicine, not by a long shot.

What I so neatly summarised, yes.

I don't think you have to worry about anyone we know, they're aware of your quirks. If the hospital staff have a problem with taking orders from you then wave your official certificate in their faces.

[He's not really upset by it because well, it's true. He's improved by leaps and bounds but he's still at his core a goddamn bastard.]

They'll learn. Easy way or hard way, either's good by me.
