[ baby's first network post and it'll be an anonymous text post, because Kaneki's priority is to know just how bad his situation really is without having others freaking out. He has thousands of questions, but none are as important as these: ]

Does anyone know what Ghouls are? Do they exist in your world? Do they exist here?

Got your ghost stories and your horror movies to give you a real idea of what a ghoul is. But I'm throwing that aside to suggest that's not what you're talking about.

How about some details. I've seen some weird shit working on border patrol.

[Alright, definitely not what he expected. A cannibalistic sub-human species.]

Just stories. Lots of them place them as either not-quite-vampires, or something like your modern day zombie.

And, according to your description, not much unlike what you're talking about.
Except with the bonus of 'not being able to tell the difference'.

Let me guess.
These things hide among regular humans.

I do not think I've heard of anything by that name and I'd like to think I'm well traveled. I haven't heard anyone mention them here either. I haven't been here very long, though. What are Ghouls?

[ It certainly doesn't sound like a fruit or flower and her replies will be slow. She's not used to the device and she's having to use audio-to-text to get anything done. ]

[ That is definitely new and a rather unnerving thought. His use of the word 'predator' helps her process it more quickly, though. ]

I have neither heard of, nor encountered anything like that. The predators I'm accustomed to are of the animal variety and many of them are quite formidable.

[ Some Nemedians may fall into that category in the figurative sense, but that doesn't merit speaking. ]

How formidable are they? You're sure there is nothing else that can sate their appetites?

Are you asking if there are any here because you're worried?

Going to guess these things are common where you're from. If they live among humans and eat them...

Troublesome existence. Unless they're just the corpse-eating type.

[Maybe it's because he's something not-quite-human himself with a habit of draining corpses of life--he doesn't see a problem with devouring human bodies after they've already died.]

Not personally, no. Man-eating creatures aren't exactly something I'm too worried about.

Others might be. Such as yourself. No saying if any ghouls followed you here from your world.

They look like people and live among people and they've tried to find alternatives to eating people. That doesn't sound like a simple animal to me.

[ It sounds like people. That the Ghouls themselves have tried to find alternatives says something about them despite their predator status in her mind. What makes this less of a black and white issue for her is the simple fact that they look like people and live among them, that they'd be part of clans, that they might be family. If a Ghoul is one of your own, how do you reconcile that? Most importantly, how do they, if they care? Oh, and that she and no one she knows has been sized up for a meal also helps a fair bit. ]

If they can be honest friends and family and care for the well-being of the people they live among, then theirs must be a troubled existence. I do not know how my clan would handle the matter, nor am I entirely sure how this place would, being new here myself.

Why do you ask, stranger? Are you concerned there may be Ghouls here?

Ghouls? I only ever heard about them in stories. Though I've seen things that look how I picture a ghoul might in my life.

They were called something else though.

is that like a ghost or a vampire or something?

[Her grasp of monster lore is nebulous at best, mostly relegated to stories the other kids told or mouldy old books that were readable enough to pass muster. She doesn't remember ever running across the word specifically, but she can infer the general idea from context.]

I would think so.

[ In regard to his being worried. His clarification makes her wonder what sort of past he might have involving Ghouls. He isn't painting them with a broad brush. Most people tend to when they're afraid. She knows that firsthand. ]

If that is the way of things and there are Ghouls who regard people as nothing more than prey, I would speak to the Perimeter Guard. Perhaps they could put you in touch with someone who might be able to figure an alternative for those who would do people no harm.

Is there any way to tell Ghouls apart?

You know.
Talking like that about creatures you're suggesting are 'dangerous' is a little weird, you know.

But you're preaching to the choir. I know plenty of things that look human and live among them despite it. So if you're some sort of ghouls rights activist...

You don't need to waste your speech on me. I don't particularly care if they eat people. Just don't do it where people have to watch.

['exactly like humans at first' definitely gives her pause. He hasn't described what they do, but that part of her mind that's always in survival mode jumps to conclusions anyway. But she hasn't met anyone here who's from the same place as her, who knows what Infected are. Carl is close, but there were too many differences there to be the same stuff.

But he called them 'walkers'. This dude's using the word 'ghoul'. Different words for the same things? She squints at her tablet.]

and? why are u asking about them if they're just like normal ppl?

They were called Proxies.

Previous to meeting one of those it was always a very.. nebulous thing. Not something definable. But once you have a 9 foot tall monster staring you down in your bathroom it's a little bit hard not to make it your personal 'boogie man'

The ones i know of in my world are just fairytales told by outsiders. I think they're meant to trick people into committing evil acts.

[Or something. Christian travels are very few and far between.]
