video @L.Mills
[The video turns on to show Lucy in her room, and trying hard to keep a straight face because....things happened. Good things that is.
Trying to be positive, trying to be optimistic, but also being cautious....]
So....is it normal for things to randomly appear? I mean not 'falling out of the sky' random, but 'appearing out of thin air' random? There is a difference between the two.
Because, I just got something--well two somethings, and I'm not sure if it's real or if anything happened or if it's just magic.

[ He tilts his head a little at her. ]
Is that what you mean? What did you get?

[Next question will obviously be if she could ride with him, but one thing at a time.]
Yes! I got two things that suddenly appeared and I thought it was magic, but it still doesn't take away how awesome it is.
Take a guess.
[Play along, Jim, just guess!]

[ Also he's the Fun Dad, she doesn't even need to ask if he'll take her for a ride. Obviously he will. (And then Victor will probably kill him for it, no big deal.) ]
Hm... sounds like they're important to you, so... I'm gonna guess one of them is that book you like so much.
[ Since she had mentioned once the possibility of it showing up here. ]
no subject
[ Okay, Jim officially the fun parent and reminds her a bit of Henry. He had a bike too.
His guess is met with a big grin. ]
Not just any book.
[ She reaches behind her, taking out a book that’s bigger than her lap and holds it up. ]
It’s the book. The one Henry had with the first curse but it has our stories in it! Like Emma’s and Henry’s.
no subject
Yeah, that's my bike. Surprise?
[ Victor is a science dork, and Jim flies a shuttle for a living. How is it even an argument which one is the cool parent?? ]
That's the one I meant, yes. That's great, Lucy. Does this mean you can read me their stories now?
no subject
[ Both of them are cool parents, but Victor was her favorite and Jim was the more “adventurous” parent. Either way, she’s lucky to have both. ]
Yes I can, but I’m saving the story of Henry and my mom for when Papa gets better. I want to read that to both of you. Maybe when you get home I could read you Prince Charming’s?
[ And then it hits her. ]
Did you grab the lunch I made you? It was in a brown bag on top of the kitchen counter.

[ His smile wanes a little when she mentions Victor being sick, but he pushes past it. He's tried not to worry Lucy too much, but he's been following Victor's progress and it's a little worrying. He's not looking any better. ]
Alright. Prince Charming's story, then. [ And Victor does call him Captain Charming so he has a personal interest in the guy's story too. ]
I did. It was delicious, thank you. Although I'm pretty sure I'm the one who should be packing up your lunch. [ JUST KIDDING. Don't let Jim cook anything. ]

[When Victor is feeling better, and when things have calmed down. Maybe they could all go out on a picnic, or actually go out camping. They could do anything, really, but Victor needed to get better first. She knew he was sick and not at his best. She hasn't been able to see much of him, even though they're in the same household. He's quarantined and she's...not.]
Okay, I'll tell it to you when you go home, deal?
[Her grin widens then, pleased to hear he enjoyed the sandwich she made.]
Well, if we have left over pizza, you could always pack that for me. Though...maybe I should go to the market and pick something up for all of us? Soup and bread? Or more cold medicine?
no subject
[ But he's totally buying her a helmet so she'll know what he means when he gifts it to her. ]
Deal. And I'm ordering in some food for us, but not pizza again. Actual food. I've got the medicine too, and lots of soup and bread. Don't worry about it, Lucy, I promise I have it all under control.
[ As much as he can, anyway. Other than taking care of Victor, it's not like he can do much else to figure out what's up with this disease. ]
no subject
[Still thinking of them as a family and as a way for them to go on adventures together.]
I'm not worried about it, I just...
[How can she explain what she feels in a way that's coherent and doesn't make Jim feel bad?]
I know I'm a kid, but I want to help to. I don't want it to be you taking care of Papa and having you get sick too. Even if it means helping with cooking more--or buying things at the market, I want to help.
no subject
[ Cute idea, though. Just wouldn't work for his bike. He'll think of something else. ]
I know you do, Lucy. [ He sighs softly. ] But you are also just a kid, and this virus... we don't even know that much about it. It might affect you differently, for instance. We can't risk you getting sick too. And I haven't felt even a little bit sick so far. I've had a friend check up on me almost every day too, just in case. I'm alright, really. And I need you to let me be the adult here and take care of this. Okay? I promise you I can handle it.
Going to school, doing your homework and taking care of John and Oona is the best way you can help. Being a good girl. That'll help a lot more than you think, believe me. [ Because then neither he nor Victor will be fretting about her health or well-being. ]
no subject
I could get sick at school from kids or from the other adults. [So it's a 50/50 shot if she gets sick or not. It's not like she could be placed in a bubble nor would she want to be. She didn't want for something bad to happen and not be able to do anything about it. Like the curse, or back at Hyperion Heights.]
But I already do those things. I do my homework and take care of John and Oona. I..[No, stay calm. Be brave] I don't want to sit back and do nothing. What I'm doing is "nothing" compared to the things you have to do--for your job and for Papa.
no subject
[ And being too close to Victor would definitely increase her chances of catching the virus. ]
Lucy, I know you want to help, and I will ask you when I need it, but when you're pushing like this, you're not helping. What you are doing right now isn't nothing, believe me. This is a tough situation but I just... I need you to trust us to take care of this. I need you to trust me. Please.
no subject
[She isn't trying to be difficult, and she knows she's pushing, but she can't help it. Lucy wants to do something--anything to help.]
Of course I trust you--I haven't had any doubts about that. [If she were older this wouldn't be a problem. Even though she is mature and responsible for her age--she's still a kid.]
But what if you get sick? Then what happens?
no subject
[ She may not be trying, but she's definitely being difficult. Rather than helping, she's just making things worse. But she's also a kid, who's worried and most likely scared about this virus and how it's affecting Victor, so he's trying really hard to be patient and understanding.
Doesn't help he doesn't have a lot of practice with kids. ]
Then I'll go to the hospital too, and we'll find someone you trust who can look after you until either or both of us are back on our feet. [ He sighs. ] Lucy, please. You're not helping. Just do what I'm asking you.
no subject
But then Victor would hear it, and it won't help him recover.]
...Fine.
[She'll do what he said, and if he gets sick, she will not be shipped off to someone else.]
no subject
[ His shoulders drop a little. He knows she's upset at him now, but honestly he'd rather have her upset at him, than exposed to unnecessary risk. She'd forgive him eventually, he's sure of that. ]
I'll be home with dinner in a bit. [ He hesitates a moment. ] If you want, we can take John for his walk together, and talk about what other ways you can help. Alright?
no subject
[Because she doesn't want to keep talking about this. It's upsetting enough and it was starting to feel like Jim would only give her tasks to distract rather than actually taking care of Victor.
He wanted her to do her chores and take care of things around the house, he's getting what he wants.]
no subject
[ His shoulders slump a little. He can't blame her for being upset at him, he would be too were their roles reversed. Reminds him of when his mom used to tell him he'd understand once he was grown up too. Boy, was she right.
For now he'll just be glad that she's not sick. And if she doesn't get sick while the virus is making the rounds all over the Quarantine, then this will have been worth it. ]
Alright, then I'll see you later. Be careful, Lucy. I will be, too.
