How do you go about picking gifts?

[ He's just going to dive right in. No real introduction, but Steve figures that most people won't care too much about who is asking this or why. ]

I'm sure a lot of you are better at this than I am, so I guess I need some advice. How do you find a good gift for someone that already has far more than you've seen for half your lifetime? Not that I'm aiming to impress anyone, but it'd be nice to pull it off.

[ He grins a little. Okay, so maybe he's trying. Just a little. But Steve is rarely the one that surprises anyone else. He just wants a chance at doing something cool for a change. Of course, he's realistic and knows this is unlikely, but he can try. ]

I'm in a little over my head on this one. Everyone else always has the flashy stuff covered.

[ Steve chuckles at the compliment which is really Loki being smug, but his shoulders sag and he lowers the device momentarily, forgetting it. ]

Mm. I don't need a flying boat. I just... thought you might like going for a ride sometime. Maybe see some things.

I guess it's not as exciting when you're used to it.

Not everything needs to be exciting.

[ And he's warming up to the idea all the same. ]

Well, no, but I want you to enjoy it. I thought this was about getting you a gift, not taking me places.

[ Loki always seems to find ways to impress Steve even when Steve is trying to do something nice for him. It's almost frustrating, except he knows it's Loki being nice and he can't get angry. ]

You're impossible.

[ Loki shrugs, nonchalant. He mainly proposed the idea of a gift to see what Steve would come up with rather than hinging on the actual object itself. He's curious and Loki has always indulged his curiosity first and foremost. ]

As I said. The worst. Shamelessly mercurial.

Watching you run circles? Oh, yes.

[ Loki kisses the outside shell of Steve's ear. ]

How could I not?

Hm.

[ Steve leans into it, raising an eyebrow. ]

I'm getting ideas. I want to make sure it's something you'll actually like.

I am not worried.

[ It may not be fancy, but Loki fully believes whatever Steve picks will be interesting. Or at least, new to him. While their tastes do not always mesh, Loki preferring the wealthier, finer things in life and Steve preferring the simpler pleasures, Loki knows Steve well enough by now. He is no fool.

Besides, this is harmless. And Loki needs to fill his head with harmless nonsense to drown out the rest. Cocking his head at Steve, he smiles faintly, thin around the edges. ]

And therefore, you should not either.

I'm not worried.

[ Okay, maybe a little. The idea of trying to treat Loki only to end up somehow offending or hurting him by hitting a sore point does bother him, but he doubts that is really likely to happen. It's just the drive he has to do things right that makes him stress the whole idea, and the desire to give Loki an appropriate challenge. ]

You sure you're not just saying that? Trying to be nice?

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki raises an eyebrow, deadpan. ]

Trying to be nice and just saying things sounds nothing like me.

[ The very flat response he gets makes Steve grin broadly. ]

I know.

[ Loki huffs, even as he moves around to confidently seat himself on Steve's lap, making it infinitely more difficult for Steve to manage his network post. Because he knows Steve is teasing him and he has to prove a point about his assholery. ]

[ Steve raises an eyebrow as Loki plants himself on his lap, intentionally blocking Steve from continuing his conversations with everyone else. ]

You make a better door than a window.

[ Loki tilts his head up lazily. ]

Nonsense. I make for an excellent everything.

Mm. You're a decent blanket. My legs won't get cold.

[ Steve lets the device hang, turning his attention completely to Loki. ]

Feeling jealous already?

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki's gaze flicks to the device and back to Steve. ]

Should I be?

I thought you might be with my attention off of you for a whole two minutes.

[ He gives him a smirk. ]

No. You've got nothing to worry about.

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki kisses the underside of Steve's chin. ]

Well, technically your attention is still on me since this post was about me.

[ He'd preen if he could. ]

[ Steve looks pleased with himself. ]

Huh, imagine that. Guess you're popular.

[ He blinks. ]

You should give people more credit than that. Some of them answered with you specifically in mind.

[ It's an admonishment, but a gentle one. ]

For those that didn't, well, maybe they'd like getting to know you. You don't know until you try.
