[ the last time she graced the network with her presence, diana of themyscira explored the wonder of food emojis. now, however, she decides to take a more traditional approach — face-to-face, well, as much as she can over these devices. while she still prefers to meet in person, this will suffice for now. what can she say, she's old fashioned like that. ]

Thanksgiving.

[ she speaks the word softly, almost contemplative, though diana offers a bright smile into the camera. ]

Back home, we had many reasons to be thankful, and we did not limit the occasion to one day. Still, family and friends. [ her smile widens. ] That is something to celebrate.

What other — [ a careful pause, her nose wrinkling a bit. ] "holidays" are there?

Where I'm from, we don't really celebrate many mortal holidays. I mean, the gods have their holidays and such, like Dionysia, but even those we're too busy training to actually have feasts or anything.

I mean, I know mortals celebrate Christmas and Easter, but we don't really recognize those ones.

[Video, sweet merciful video. There are no emojis.]

Where I was before here, we had holidays that meant getting gifts or letters from friends at the Temple. The holidays weren't really what they would have been back home. For instance, Valentine's Day is usually a- romantic holiday.

[Yes, he falters there, like it's awkward to say.]

We exchanged gifts with friends, small things. We didn't really have much to give there. We also got letters from friends who used to be there, before. Every year boxes would appear at the Temple, everyone had a unique box, and inside the box we'd find letters from our friends who had gone home.

If a "holiday" means a time for celebration, we had many in my home.

[ When her home still existed... ]

Um, let's see, Valentine's Day is my favorite, Easter is pretty cool too, Halloween, Christmas, New Years, Chinese New Years, most countries have a day for themselves, Arbor Day...

...I have no idea what Arbor Day is about, or when it is, I just know it apparently exists.

People like their holidays, back— on Earth. Here too, of course, they're just a little different.

[ This month's festivities just happen to have coincided with the Thanksgiving holiday that so many people here are familiar here. ]

I don't think people really are only thankful when Thanksgiving comes round. It's like... you celebrate a person's life and how much they mean to you on their birthday, but that doesn't mean you don't care about them every other day of the year.

Christmas is pretty popular too, and it's just around the corner. Has anyone told you about that one yet?

Every day's a holiday somewhere. Different cultures like to have their own spin.

Japan has too many.

I think you'll find it varies a lot from culture to culture - and from time to time.

[She smiles.]

For example, on my Earth, every year we celebrate First Contact Day, to mark the first time humanity encountered beings from another planet. I haven't run into anyone else who celebrates that, other than others from my world of course.

( The concept is a new one to her; both because she's never heard of such a celebration before a boy mentioned it the other day, and she's had few reasons to feel anything approaching thankful for anything. That's begun to change of late; now that she has more, and thus more to lose, and cherish. )

What if one has no family, or few friends, lady? ( Though she believes that she comprehends it. ) I'm thankful for my people; my dragons, and for my King.

( And for my life. Though she doesn't admit to his aloud. )

The city of Meereen held a series of games; the Masters called them great. Murder made into sport, and condoned by their priestesses.

[Jon is getting better at knowing how to hold the camera so he can be seen, and without a lengthy preamble to any network communications where he attempts to find a position for it.]

Where I come from, we're thankful every day that we're still living. But we do have harvest feasts. It's a good way to bring the lords together.

Then there are festivals in the Faith of the Seven, one for each of their gods but the Stranger, but I don't follow it. My father's gods have no festivals.

[A small part of the edge of Daenerys's distinctive hair and shoulder can be seen to his left in the frame, and there's a soft occasional scraping noise, her utensils on her plate while she finishes her supper.]

There is one that is coming up soon we celebrate at home. It is called Jól, where there is feasting, drinking, presents given, and a celebration of the sun coming back in the new years.

[If Ivar has his way, they're going to celebrate it here in Riverview with all the trappings. None of this Christian-inspired Christmas nonsense.]

You'll wind up with a myriad of answers in a place like this, but I don't suppose celebration as a common point between people from varying worlds and times should be counted as a terrible thing. Quite the opposite, really.

[ It's... something in her experience, for it in Purgatorium, especially. Folding her arms, she leans back, thoughtful as she regards the woman on the feed, something of a smile tugging at her lips. ]

Many are seasonal. I believe the next one by the calendar would be... Christmas? X-Mas? The name was used interchangeably. I can't quite recall why, but it's a great time of gift giving. After that, of course, is celebrations of the new year.
