( The image that comes onto the screen is of a pristinely clean kitchen, obviously unused. It pans around for a minute, and then Dany appears, clothes and hair immaculate as those who've since met her may be accustomed to seeing by now. The expression on her face is cool out of habit, though her head is tilted, indicating that she's open to conversing, and curious. )
Prior to my arrival here, I cannot say there has been a single occasion upon which I've had to prepare or cook my own food. Not even when we crossed a desert.
( And then her expression twists, pinching into something remotely sheepish and rueful. )
Would that it were otherwise. I'm no great talent with this oven or stove; nor even with wood and flame. But I would know what sort of dishes you favoured back home, and if you might share toe recipes for them, if you know them.
—other than honeyed locusts, anyway. ( If they're to someone else's taste, fine; but yuck. ) I intend to learn.

( Could you be more helpful, Chase? Kids today. )
Alternately, is that sold ready-made?

[ Flour + yeast is literally all he knows about dough. ]
You could probably find the dough at a grocery store or something. And you can definitely get a whole frozen pizza there.
Or just throw the ingredients on top of, like, a bagel.

I could send you a few recipes, it's really easy to make.

That would be a mixture of meat and vegetables, yes?
no subject
[Give him a second to send over some files. Hopefully she can figure that out.]
Sometimes just vegetables, but I prefer it with meat. We have some actual recipe books lying around I could dig up if you want a bit of variety, though.

If you've never had a cheeseburger and fries, we'll have to fix that right away. Can't go wrong with a good burger.

I have in fact tried a cheeseburger; it was strange, but tasted very good.
Do you know how to make them?

Do you know how to use that stuff?
[ If she's talking about wood and flame, it's probably not the hugest leap to think she might not have encountered modern kitchen appliances before coming here. ]

In theory, I do. I haven't attempted cooking with it yet.
( That's the obvious assumption to make; and also the correct one. )
Who are you? 'None' isn't at all helpful.

Tell me you're not in the building somewhere.
[ Because you know, that's where he is, and he has something of a vested interest in not having Cinderella burn it down ]

( Her lips twitch a little at the corners, a small smile threatening to brighten her expression. )
I think your advice seems sound, lady. I'll attempt it, if you know the directions. It galls me to spend all my coin on food prepared by others.
( Not when she's not a Queen here, with comparatively unlimited funds at her disposal. )
» video
[And there's the laugh that she can't quite continue to hold back.]
I know the directions and I'm happy to help. I'm Izzy, by the way. [She lifts her hand in a confident, but small wave.] And no one can survive on takeout and takeout alone, unfortunately, for more than a few reasons, so I get it. [She's just lucky in the fact that she's got siblings to cook when her skills are pretty lacking.]
You're going to need eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and butter along with a bowl, fork, spatula, and a pan to cook in. [Izzy's good with theory in this particular subject, it's just the exection that still needs some work.]

Was it? It was a necessity at the time; we were starving and water was scarce.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Of all the climates, I'd say a desert is one of the harshest. You are resilient, my lady.

[ Ah what else did he read about that had rice and some kind of meat or fish?! ]
Oh! I know. There's something really easy to make that uses rice and a type of meat or fish. They're called...tacos. They're actually really easy to make! Would something like that interest you? It's close to the food you're used to at home so maybe it might not be too different to try?

[Alex has eaten bugs before but something about that just flips over her stomach.]
I like pad thai, but sadly I am a terrible cook.

( She's eaten a lot of things she considers undesirable to survive. Insects have never been one of them, thankfully. )
Pad thai?

[Forgive her, it's in her nature to ask questions constantly.]
And yeah, it's a spicy noodle dish with chicken and shrimp and chili and peanuts and lime. It's almost like magic how it can make you feel better.
[A beat.]
Well, not real magic, not like some people have here. Or elsewhere, I guess.
