[ some of you might have seen this username on the network before. she isn't a stranger to responding to other people's messages, nor to holding private conversation but as for addressing the entire network, well. this is certainly a first time.
peggy carter is in her office in the riverview police force. it's a slow afternoon, which is the only reason for this little message, really. ]
They're really quite attached to their celebrations aren't they. If I have to secure another event, be it a dance ball, a speed dating evening or anything that involves ribbons, glitter, gifts and large, outdoor parties, I fear I may have to file a complaint. Honestly now, this is getting out hand.
[ no one needs this amount of cheer, surely. ]
More importantly, I am searching for someone who might understand a thing or two about what makes these little devices tick.

At one or two. There aren't that many of us at the Force, someone has to make sure everyone is secure.
[ that, and she isn't so keen on socializing. ]

And how grateful we are to you for your service. [ Why does this feel like a fight of feints. ] Which did you enjoy the most, if I may ask?

every each month without a single recess for us to catch our breath. I'm not entirely certain we have enough men to secure them all.
[ she purses her lips and finally admits, ]
especially as some of them would like to attend these things rather than merely working them.

Everyone has their own idea of a good time.
[As much as Ed could get caught up in the events once there, he was hardly one to admit to enjoying them - or even to expect as much - in advance.]
If you need any help in the future, I'm kind of a Jack of all trades on the Guard. My main focus is the Surveyor Unit, but I fill in where I'm needed.

What do you need Au-- Peggy?
[Yeah, he almost just called her Aunt Peggy in public. Awkward.]

I want to understand these things a bit better. I know how to operate them well enough by now, but the way they work is a mystery to me. I don't much like being dependent on something I cannot at all understand.
[ call her old fashioned but it is what it is. ]
no subject
Well, I mean. I've built them before. Not these, obviously, but ones back home. So I can probably take you through it.

Tell me about it. The Flower Festival was the worst, I've never seen so many drunk teenagers.
[A pause.]
And I might know a guy who could help with your tech questions. What are you looking for?

[ oh, aren't you the perfect picture of helpfulness today, Eddie? ]
I want to tinker a bit with mine. See how it works.

Oh, cool. I could probably teach you a little bit about functions and stuff, but if you want to really get a good lesson on what's going on inside it, my boyfriend could help. Do you know Cisco Ramon? He goes by @ciscodelamancha on here.

Oh, I don't think they celebrate too often. Besides, it's much less dour than lamenting the loss of loved ones, isn't it? If we assume they've moved on to be somewhere more pleasant, they deserve a party, don't you think?
[He raises an eyebrow at her statement, though, looking thoughtful before responding.] Well, no two devices are the same, are they? Mine, I assume, is quite different from yours, as we were given the opportunity to choose. It's most likely several different things make them "tick". Magic, science. Magical science. Why the interest, if I may ask? Also, my name is Dorian. I don't think we've had the pleasure.

Once a month! every each month since my arrival and I have been here for some time. I admit, it's better seeing a measure of happiness than grief but I could do with a month of recess from all of this.
[ sad or happy, it's her job to make sure these celebrations are safe to all those who choose to take part in them. ]
Magical science? is this a branch of study in your world?
[ as for why she asks, ]
I use it every each day. the least I can do is make sure I understand the device I've become dependent upon.
[ and, after a pause. ]
Peggy Carter.
no subject
Ignore that.]
I suppose it is a bit extravagant, but the alternative is realizing we're countless untold distances from home, isn't it? Personally, I'd rather a party.
[He chuckles.]
Quite the opposite, really. The healers are true sticklers for their science, assuring everyone that all healing is possible without the aid of magic, and the other philosophy, of course, comes from Spirit mages who insist if they can't mend it, it isn't mendable. Personally, I've never found the fault in science, and magic has its limitations. We need a bit of both.
[He nods. He can certainly get behind that.]
A pleasure to virtually make your acquaintance, Serah Carter.

[ But that's mostly because Peter was raised among a bunch of assholes who whipped out the good liquor (and the shitty liquor) at the drop of a hat. He's pretty sure they once celebrated someone fixing a finicky door on the Eclector, even. ]

[ Hey there Peggy, Re-L from her own side of the office here, probably bored off of her socks for some reason or another. At the very least she looks amused, a brow quirked and the corner of her usually straight-set mouth turned upward. There's no daring motion to laugh just yet, as much as she damn well wants to, but - ]

What exactly are you looking for, information wise?

[ it's better than coffee duties but it's still not quite there with making the world a safer place. ]
Someone to take this thing apart and put it together again for me, as it is. I think I've just found a rather worthy volunteer.

The devices aren't terribly difficult to get the hang of. Do you not have them back home?

Not at all, I fear. This kin of technology hasn't thrived in the year 1946. Not on my Earth, anyway. I understand that changes between universes.

it's an interesting way of passing the time. I'd say if that was the case, they should have done it during the spring festival. three-quarters of the city's population was heavily intoxicated, after all.
