It's an ancient festival that took place during Valentine's Day. They used to kill dogs and goats and beat women with the hides.

Women used to line up to get hit. So, essentially, holidays celebrating romance were built from this.

Even as someone with a partner, I find this particular celebration over the top. Didn't we just have a celebration for love a few months ago? Why the clarification for "romantic" love? Does it really need an extra special month?
